Zalman 3000u or CryoLX

This review is for all of you choosing between this one and cryo LX cooler, i choose to keep the cryo LX cooler. Cryo seem to cool better and its alittle more travel friendly, Neither is really, but at least cryo folds alittle, also cryo comes with an ac adaptor. Zalman charges extra for it.
Zalman has Plastic parts as where the Cryo is all metal, the Pitch on the fan blades is more on the Cryo as compared to the the Zalman as well

Measured Difference

I purchased this after a lot of research (both here and the egg) and ultimately purchased this one here. First piece to get it out of the way, it is big, which hurts the portability of it, but it does do what it's supposed to do very well. I fear if you go with anything else to try and be portable, you're going to sacrifice the main purpose of the cooler to work.
Pros:
It works as I would hope it would...
I ran a CPU temp monitor on it (software based) and ran it with at first for about 15 minutes. My temperatures doing normal stuff (email/web/word/excel) my cpu was floating around 55 celsius (quad i7). Then while on the pad I turned off the pad (so basically now it's just a stand and let it work for about 30 minutes. At the end, my temperatures got up to on average 69 degrees. Then turning the fan back on and after working on it with a similar load for about 15 minutes, it returned to on average about 60 degrees.
Obviously my goal will be to keep it on all the time now.
Cons:
I wish it came with the power adapter, typically I don't run on battery on my laptop and having it plugged in for me is not a bid deal since I'm plugging in my laptop anyways. I like that it can run on usb in case I am lazy or am traveling (one less thing to bring) but I would rather run it through a power adapter with hopes that the fan can speed up even faster.
I didn't have the issues that others have reported about the usb power area being flimsy, mine seems to be fine, but I'm also pretty gentle with things and don't blindly try to fit the square peg into the round hole.
Recommendation:
I'd recommend this for anyone, I'm going to probably grab another soon and use it to replace the cooler I have for my old 17" Macbook Pro too since that guy is a real heater too.

The Zalman is an excellent cooler. It kept my laptop at least 20 degrees cooler. It has a very large aluminum base and is great for heat dissipation. The pad has three addition usb ports in the back that work great. The cooler doesn't strain the battery to much an the fan is adjustable. The cooler also has height adjusters which lift it higher. This works great when your laying on a bed. My only complaint is how large the cooler is. It works great for 17in notebooks, but it is over kill for a 13in notebook. The cooler has about 2 inches on each side with my latop. I wish they made a smaller version. Also the cooler can't fit inside your standard laptop travel bag. This includes 17in notebook bags. It will have to be carried separately. This can be a huge inconvenience. My final thought is great buy for any laptop, but not made to be portable. This item was made to sit on a desk all day, which limits the usefulness of the item for portable laptops.
